AP (Armour Piercing)

AP describes a round with a reinforced warhead that uses kinetic energy to penetrate. Initial speed and high caliber gives more kinetic energy and aids in penetration. Some special rounds are designed with a tungsten alloy core to reach higher penetration (tungsten is denser than steel).

This type round has no explosive component. When an AP round has explosive filler, it is called an Armour Piercing-High Explosive (APHE) round.

In Battleground Europe these rounds are useful to attack armoured tanks as they have the higher penetration ability of your weapon. Antitank guns, tank guns and some AAA are equiped with this kind of round.
