Brigade markings

NOTE: To enhance the atmosphere of WWII Online: Battleground Europe we have added Brigade Markings to Army and Air Force units. However, the current names of brigades and divisions are not completely historically accurate. Thus, the markings on the units of various brigades does not exactly match their historical counterparts. The markings are real, but belong to other units.

This is a hold-over effect from the implementation of non-historical associations with the names of brigades in-game, such as the SAS. However, we cannot be completely accurate given the problems of using anything referring to SS units of Germany.

We hope to eventually move to a more generic brigade/group naming convention that is not tied to historical accuracy, but able to give each brigade some distinction from other units.

NOTE: Infantry and Navy do not have Brigade Markings.

Air Groups

These are commonly referred to as "Air Brigades" in the WWIIOL community and even CRS staff have fallen victim to using this incorrect terminology. There is also a variation in terminology between the different countries with Squadron, Wing, Group, Groupes, Gruppe, Geschwaders, and Staffel describing different quantities and hierarchies of organization. "Brigades" is thus a convenient catch-all for the game context.

British

In the RAF context, these are Squadrons, organized into Wings.
