CAS

"Close Air Support" is all about the air force supporting the ground troops, usually by precision dropping bombs on enemy tanks, vehicles, and areas of close infantry concentration.

At the beginning of WW2 the idea did not formally exist, but it did not take long for this category to be created.

While modified fighters usually fill the role, light bombers with good performance also filled the role. The Ju 87 "Stuka" was originally intended to be an "aerial artillery", but was found to be good at the CAS role as well.

This section will be expanded at a later date, but simply CAS involves high angle dives to drop bombs on targets, or shallow angle cannon attacks on targets' weak points, usually a tank's rear quarters.
