British

British grenadier

Special Equipment:
No.68 Mills Bomb HEAT (anti-armor)
Explosive: 800 g (each grenade)
Range: 250m
Included Weapons:

  • 1 x Lee Enfield .303 Rifle
  • 6 x HEAT Grenades
  • 1 x Combat Knife

The British Rifle-Grenadier is unique in that he is armed with the only anti-tank grenade in Battleground Europe. The No.68 Mills bomb was fired from a cup fitted to the end of a regular Lee-Enfield rifle and employing a special high charge "blank" cartridge loaded into the breech.

While effective against tanks or armored vehicles it did lose that effectiveness as armor became thicker later in the war, and required the rifleman to gain an almost ideal, perfect angle shot at 90 degree obliqueness to the target, very difficult under most combat circumstances. for these reasons ... generally only the very skilled and careful rifle grenadiers do well against most tanks, and the HEAT properties of this grenade are not well suited against enemy infantry.

The French Rifle Grenadier employed a regular infantry rifle and a cup launched rifle grenade of the high explosive fragmentation type. It was an anti-personnel weapon and not an anti-armor weapon like the British HEAT grenade was. The VB grenade is time-fused, whereas other rifle grenades in the game are impact-detonated.
