PARADROP
From Battleground Europe Wiki
This is the ACE CARD for the armed forces, and when the mission is well supported and planned correctly, victory is almost certain!
I need to emphasize well supported and planned correctly, because otherwise it will be a waste of time and equipment. You must have a good number of troops (at least 8 a flight), at least 2 transports, more if the flight is long, and sufficient fighter cover to protect from enemy aircraft. Landing zones and drop zones need to be planned for safe drops with excellent cover for approaching units. Poor drop zones make for easy pickings for enemy forces.
Paratroop drops
Simple advice until more information is added: Minimum drop altitude is 400 meters (1200 feet). Otherwise you para buddies will just be pancakes all over the target.
It is also highly recommended to drop para’s outside small towns, preferably into heavy foliage, so they can find cover and quickly regroup. For large cites drop into the middle, using the city itself as the cover, forcing the enemy to have to split its forces to protects all the CP’s
"Glider" landings
The Germans conceived and pioneered the idea of using gliders to deliver men and materials behind enemy lines. While more dangerous then a parachute drop, the advantages of delivering the squad as a unit, with more and heavier equipment then parachutes can accommodate, more then made up for it. There was also the added advantage of surprise since the towing aircraft did not have to come in hearing range to drop its cargo (unlike para drops), so defenders did not receive a warning until it was almost too late.
The capture of the Belgium fort of Eben-Emal (another link) was the first time assault gliders where used, and the stunning success radically altered and expanded the capabilities of infantry.
While the game currently does not have “gliders”, the use of the transports to land troops within reach of a target has been adapted as a substitute. Make sure you plan your approach carefully, and think ahead, otherwise you will be a smoking hole and your passengers will not be so inclined to ride with you in the future.
