Page layout

The layout of this page isn't appealing, with the TOC taking 1+ screen height, how could we re-structure this long list? How about breaking it down in several pages? Pachy 14:25, 5 February 2007 (CST)

I was thinking some Tables. Feel free to experiment with it.
After some more thought, I think you're right, Pachy. Separate pages might be best.
Really like what you've been doing. Aha. Forgot I'd done these: Infantry Armor Air force Navy
Maybe keep those, and expand on functionality and purpose, etc., but add some unit pages?
For instance: <Infantry Weapons> listing individuals firearms, and <Infantry Units> for the roles, Sniper, Rifleman, Grenadier?

Not crazy about tables

I'm not a fan of these tables, especially for the vehicles. It's hard to justify that the Stug III B is an assault tank but the Panzer IV D is not, instead a medium tank. Or that the P-39D is not a fighter but a fighter-bomber. Etc. It seems somewhat arbitrary.

It works for infantry, since all forces have identical infantry forces in the game, but doesn't it feel odd to classify the Vickers tank with the Cruiser and the Panzer II and the H39?

By the way, the German Stielhandgranate 24 and the French Grenade OF are actually blast grenades, not fragmentation grenades.  :)

Much love, Webs

I'm kind of liking the tables. You'd have to have a long discussion with DocDoom about the late StuG (as opposed to the earlier one) and its transition into the JagdPanzer. You'll notice the line actually says "Fighter-Bomber / Close Air Support", does the P-39 not fit that? DocDoom actually preferred "Air Superiority Fighter" over "Fighter". Do you think that would be better. If they called the tank a light tank, what am I supposed to call it? Super-light? Bantam-weight? These aren't meant to be "this-matches-that".
Removed the "Frag" bit. I wish those grenades were more meaty. Bloo
What about "tankette"? Nah, save it that for the Carriers. I want my Wasp! No? How about a Churchill Crocodile? User:Webs
When those are in-game, they can have they're own lines. For comparisons, I made an alternative AFV table, which is cleaner, but it doesn't give any indication about the vehicle. Hmm, what about "Very Light Tank" for Vickers and PzII? Bloo
"Very Light Tank" could work. "Small Calibre Tank" could work too. Maybe I'm just overthinking. I'm imagining a new player come in, and he finds that the Matilda and the Tiger are both heavy tanks, so he thinks they must match up. Maybe that just doesn't matter.
You already have the Churchill VII. All we have to do is convince Gophur to replace the hull MG with a flamethrower....  :) Man, I love that tank - my all-time favourite. Webs

German guns designations

Just a question, because I'm not an expert on German weapons but it seems to me that, just like French guns', German guns' designation always included the calibre, ie

  • 3.7 cm PaK 36 (or 3,7 cm if you're, errr, perfectionist)
  • 5 cm PaK 38
  • 7.5 cm PaK 40
  • 2 cm Flak 30
  • 4 cm Flak 28

This convention is in use on the Wikipedia: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:WWIIGermanGuns as well as on AxisHistory and Missing-Lynx and no, I am not the one enforcing it everywhere :). Pachy 15:50, 8 February 2007 (CST)

Sniper

Sniper shouldn't be Elite Infantry?
--cad 12:34, 12 February 2007 (CST)

It's been said that they're not 'snipers' in the elite sense, but just normal grunts with scopes. Like some sort of specialized infantry for normal battalions. Danvm 06:46, 21 March 2008 (CST)
