Replacing the PaK. 38 in order to defeat the increasingly heavier Allied armor like the Churchill tanks, the PaK. 40 proved to be an effective anti-tank gun that was still small enough to be man handled and concealed in ambush, and big enough to hurt the majority of the tanks it hit at good ranges. Nowhere near as light as it's earlier sibling the PaK. 38 it was still very light for a heavy 75 mm class of anti-tank gun, and gunner crews liked it for both this aspect and it's near 88 mm class performance.
