Grenadier
Overview and Game Play
The modern rifle grenade's widespread use started during the trench warfare of World War I. Although they required more training and equipment than the common hand grenade and were thus generally reserved for specialized soldiers, they had several advantages that made them worth having on the battlefield:
- A rifle grenade's range and accuracy was far better than a hand-thrown grenade.
- Since it didn't need to be light enough to easily throw, a rifle grenade's charge could be far larger.
- Because of the force of the collision, a grenade that was launched could explode on impact. (Currently only the German rifle grenade does this.)
In-game, the grenadier can contribute greatly in urban battles as long as it isn't treated as a rifleman with some fancy toys. Its ability to accurately fire powerful explosives into doors and windows is an extreme edge in building-to-building fighting, making the grenadier the only class that actually has an advantage against a defending opponent that's around a corner. However, since it has to disable its only firearm to use rifle-grenades, the grenadier is extremely exposed to enemies if there aren't any friendly infantry around to support it.
The grenadier is equipped with a rifle, 8 HE rifle-grenades, and an adapter that's attached to the rifle using the deploy function (b by default). They also carry 4 hand-held HE and smoke grenades as well as a combat knife.

The French Rifle Grenadier employed a regular infantry rifle and a cup launched rifle grenade of the high explosive fragmentation type. It was an anti-personnel weapon and not an anti-armor weapon like the British HEAT grenade was. The VB grenade is time-fused, whereas other rifle grenades in the game are impact-detonated.
