History
The M1 Garand is best known for two things: its semi-automatic firing and the hallmark "ping" sound when its 8-round en bloc clip was ejected. The semi-automatic fire gave it a tremendous advantage over opponents using the bolt-action rifles that had been the previous standard. General George S. Patton called it "the greatest implement of battle ever devised."
