History
Before the Second World War, the US Army found that the M1 rifle was not suitable for most support troops. Therefore the US army decided to design new weapon with more firepower than a pistol and one that weighed less that a M1 rifle and Thompson submachine gun. After a selective process the M1 designed was picked. Firing a .30 Carbine round It came in two basic versions the M1 Carbine and the M1A1 Carbine with a folding stock intended for paratrooper use.
The M1 Carbine proved to be popular with the majority troops who praised it for its light weight, small size and its firepower particularly with those troops who weren’t issues a M1 rifle as their main weapon.
The M1 would continue to see service after the end of the Second World War and was still in use by Vietnam.
