History

The mark II hand grenade was born out of the failure of the mark I grenade during the First World War. The Mark II was adopted for service during 1918 and was manufactured of cast iron with a grooved surface divided into 40 knobs in 5 rows of 8 columns. This was intended to enhance fragmentation (in practice, it was found that the grooves did not enhance fragmentation as much as desired) and provide a better grip when handling and throwing the grenade.

During the 1920s the HE variants where painted yellow, however during the Second World War a bright yellow grenade was quickly found to be impractical for obvious reasons, leading to them being quickly repainted olive drab with a yellow band around the top. The Mark II served through the Second World War and was replaced in American service in the 1960s.

Game Play

Grenades are used mostly for taking down the various AI you will encounter in game. landing a grenade on the platform of the tower should bring it down in a single blast. other AI is dealt with by throwing a grenade at their feet or anti-tank gun.

Grenades are also used to clear CPs and army base radio rooms.
